This song was inspired by the book "The Prodigal God" by Pastor Tim Keller, founder of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York, USA. The book takes the famous parable of the Prodigal Son from Luke 15 in the New Testament and delves deeply into the story of the two sons and their father, treating it as a "message that gets to the heart of Christianity," as it says at the beginning of the book, so that even those who know nothing about the Bible can understand the message. It is a message that will touch the hearts of those who know nothing of the Bible and those who have lived a life of faith for many years. The plot of the story of the "prodigal son" is that the younger brother, who is happy to live the way he wants to live, asks for a portion of his father's property even though his father is still alive, and soon leaves his father's house to lead a life of self-indulgence and dissipation. He immediately leaves his father's house and lives a self-indulgent life, spending his money. The younger brother, repentant, returns to his father, but his father, instead of being disgusted and angry, runs to him, welcomes him gladly, and throws a sumptuous banquet for him. The story ends with an exchange of words between the father and the younger brother, in which the father placates the older brother's reluctance to join the feast and invites him to join the feast. What was particularly striking to me in reading this book was that both the younger brother, who left his father's house because of his own greed, and the older brother, who was obedient and stayed close to his father to suppress his own desires, ultimately only wanted what belonged to their father. In the end, they both just wanted their father's possessions, and neither of them loved their father. They have different personalities and behavior patterns, but they share the same underlying motive and purpose. When the story of the prodigal son is told, the focus is on the sinful behavior of the younger brother type and the unconditional love of the father, but in this book, many pages are also devoted to the sinfulness of the older brother and the depth of his roots, so as I mentioned at the beginning of the book, this is one that will stick with those who have been walking in faith for years. To explain the music, Verse 1 depicts a younger brother who left his father's house and became a prodigal, and Verse 2 depicts an older brother who stayed close to his father but whose heart was distant from him. In Verse 2, I included the word "I" because my own emotional state overlapped with my brother's. In the Chorus, God the Father welcomes us with open arms. In the Bridge, Jesus, our true brother and God's only begotten Son, paid the price for our sins and bought us back from the slavery of sin. Chorus 2 quotes a phrase that appears many times in the Psalms, "The grace of the Lord is everlasting," proclaiming the grace of our Heavenly Father. We hope that this song will be a time to remember the prodigal love of God and the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus, on the cross.
