We, Waterbird, are a music unit formed in 2011 by vocalist nora and a composer.
Our encounter began when the composer was captivated by nora's genre-less vocals during her internet streaming activities. Nora studied piano from childhood and developed her unique expressiveness while being influenced by Western music from the 1960s to 1980s, refining her singing technique across a wide vocal range.
Artists we respect include Secret Garden, Joe Hisaishi, John Williams, and The Carpenters.
Our music creates a unique world by fusing classical elements with contemporary arrangements, centered around acoustic guitar and strings. Fantastical and nostalgic melody lines with nora's transparent vocals are our distinctive features.
Though we paused our activities in 2020, we incorporated the experiences and growth gained during that time into our music. In 2025, we renamed our unit "Waterbird" and resumed music production with the cooperation of mixing and mastering engineer LUX MEVIUS, with whom we've maintained a long friendship, thus launching a new creative journey.
Our unit name draws inspiration from Native American traditions. Water birds serve as guides to water sources, teaching us about the origins of life. Similarly, we aim to create music that resonates with the emotions and memories deep within our listeners' hearts, serving as a guidepost through our music.
We continue our creative work with the goal of producing "music that won't fade even after 50 or 100 years music that will be passed down through generations."Additionally, we are pioneering a new music genre called 'orchestral folk' through our activities. We invite you to lend your ears to our world of melodies and poetry that evoke the breath of nature and timeless stories.
