[Music commentary] Christoph Graupner (1683 - 1760) was a German composer and contemporary of the great Johann Sebastian Bach (Bach). He even wrote a letter of recommendation when Bach was elected cantor (director of music) of the Society of St Thomas in Leipzig. This is a testimony to his personality and shows that he knew Bach well and held him in very high esteem. The scores he left behind were sealed in the castle in Darmstadt by order of the lord of the castle, while they were not lost, they remained unknown to the public. Fortunately, in recent years, these works have been increasingly performed. *CHRISTOPH-GRAUPNER-GESELLSCHAFT: https://christoph-graupner-gesellschaft.de/english Performance: [Trio C-dur Trio, a Fagotto, Chalumeau e Cembalo GWV 201] The piece we performed is an unusual trio sonata written for two bass-bearing wind instruments, the bassoon and bass chalumeau, and basso continuo. It is composed in the form of a church sonata with 4 alternating slow and fast movements, slow - fast - slow - fast. Video: The video was filmed focusing on the timing between the movements, so that the viewer can feel the complementary relationship between them. The two melodic instruments are supported by the bass continuo of the harpsichord and double bass, creating a sense of depth and dimension. The venue was Salone Fontana in Tokyo, a superb wooden building with excellent acoustics.
