One of the most well-known stories in Japanese mythology: the tale of the god Susanoo and his battle with the fearsome Yamata-no-Orochi. This enormous serpent had eight heads, eyes as red as ripe Chinese lantern berries, a body so ancient that moss and trees had grown upon it, and a belly raw and bleeding. Thanks to Susanoo's heroic actions, Princess Kushinada was saved. But few know that she had sisters-sisters who were not as fortunate and were already devoured by the beast.
