The style of this band is a very unique mix of elements and influences that defies categorization and jump across borders and genres: rock, jazz, latin, gypsy swing, klezmer, Japanese pops,etc. This - in addition to their remarkable use of theatricals on the performances - gives them a very distinctive sound. The band is led by Koshi Yamada, a pop and kitsch singer specialized in a style known as "Garage Chanson". Other members include Takao Watanabe, Saburo Tanooka, Hisao Fukushima, Takeharu Hayakawa and Roger Takahashi.

YAMADA KOSHI & RURO-NO-ASAUTAI (*Ruro-no-Asautai meaning 'wandering singer in the morning') The style of this band is a very unique mix of elements and influences that defies categorization and jump across borders and genres: rock, jazz, latin, gypsy swing, klezmer, Japanese pops,etc. This - in addition to their remarkable use of theatricals on the performances - gives them a very distinctive sound. The band is led by Koshi Yamada, a pop and kitsch singer specialized in a style known as "Garage Chanson". Other members include Takao Watanabe, Saburo Tanooka, Hisao Fukushima, Takeharu Hayakawa and Roger Takahashi. Koshi Yamada (vocals, guitar) Made his musical debut in 1984, singing with the rock band AROUGE. Later on, he started his solo career In 1994, releasing the single "Himawari"(Sunflower). Other current activities besides his work with the band includes a two person unit called "Garage Chanson Show" (together with an accordionist) and a storytelling act entitled The Solo Stage (Hitori-Butai). Takao Watanabe (trumpet) A trumpeter who plays jazz, rock and Latin American music with a deep, melancholy tone and expression. In the band, he is a powerful instrumentalist who can also create complex arrangements on the compositions. To this date, he has released 13 albums as a leader and has worked on other musical projects such as "Kiyoshiro Imawano & The Nice Middle, New Blue Day Horns" and "Orquesta Libre". Saburo Tanooka (accordion) He is the "Traveling accordionist" of the band and performs enthusiastically on a wide genre of stages and recordings. He graduated from Tokyo College of Music and studied under Daniel Colin in Paris. He has a reputation for having a playing tone which is very much like 'singing' and has participated in many TV drama and movie soundtracks and animation, commercial and game music. Rarely cast appearances. He has released 7 solo albums. Hisao Fukushima (guitar) He started to playing the guitar while he was in junior high school and over the years he has played folk songs, ragtime and bluegrass. In 1988, he participated in the "Tokyo Hot Club Band", a project aiming for a kind of improvised music that transcends the boundaries of nostalgic gypsy swing jazz, modern jazz, free, avant-garde, folk music and more. Takeharu Hayakawa (bass) Started live music playing activities while in high school, in 1971. Seven years later he joined the legendary jazz band "Seikatsu-kojo-iinkai Orchestra" (The Life Improvement Committee Orchestra). He has had also activities in the rock scene with the band "Push & Pull" (led by Masaki Ueda). He recorded 3 albums with the band "SALT" and 5 albums with the band "HAYAKAWA". He has released 2 albums as a solo artist. Currently, in addition to his work with "HAYAKAWA", he is very active collaborating and playing with ReiRan, Nakaido Reiichi Band, Kazutoki Umezu KIKI Band, Coil - a duo with Keiki Midorikawa - and also as a bass solo player. Roger Takahashi (drums) Made his major record debut in 1983 with "X-RAY". Then works with the bands "RESISTANCE" and "PUGS" respectively. Since then he has drummed freely with artists and bands like Osamu Ishida, Yoshio Nomura, Char, Manabu Miyahara, Genki Hitomi (ex Vow Vow), Masahiro Kuwana, Haruko Kuwana, Kiyoshiro Imawano, Ryo Kagawa, Odobowz, Porno Graffitti, D.T.R, Ko Machida, Masanori Sera, Rolly, Hiroko Taniyama and others. He is currently active with various musical projects such as "Yamada Koshi & Ruro-No-Asautai" and "ROCK ON BRAIN".
