Born and raised in the rich natural environment of the Togakushi and Iizuna mountains sacred peaks with a long spiritual history in Japan at an elevation of over 1200 meters Jody grew up deeply influenced by traditional Japanese spirituality before later moving to Tokyo In 1995 he formed Ground Reverse In 2000 he participated in the compilation album Kyogen and in the following year released his first album Tengaku on Speedstar Records After the passing of his father Jody relocated his base to Nagano and took over Biwa Studio Since then he has offered musical performances at Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples as a form of spiritual practice In addition to these activities he works as a recording and mixing engineer Drawing inspiration from a wide range of musical styles Jody interprets and reconstructs them through his own perspective This approach led to the creation of TengakuDub an open collective of recordings and musicians As a guitarist he has performed at major festivals including Fuji Rock Festival in 2017 and 2022 Burning Man in the United States in 2018 and Inochi no Matsuri in 2024 He is also active under multiple projects including The Factors a unit featuring female vocals At the core of Jodys artistic sensibility is a timeless awareness of sound The environmental sounds of life the sky the land and the changing seasons resonate across many frequencies while the soundscape of modern society remains chaotic and constantly shifting His work seeks harmony and creation between these two contrasting worlds
