Tokyo-based rapper and film director TIVE has completed his new EP, EFFECTIVE NIGHT. This project marks the first chapter, Night, of a trilogy structured around the passage of time: morning, daytime, and night. Designed as a one-night experience that acts directly on the senses, the work refuses to separate music from visuals, instead presenting them as a single, inseparable expression. TIVE is an artist who oversees every aspect of his output, from directing and editing his own music videos to jacket design and track-making direction. His music is constructed not only to be heard, but to be seen - a philosophy deeply embedded in both the sonic architecture and visual language of his work. In 2025, he performed at the Ringo Music Festival, where he also personally directed the official digest movie, further cementing his reputation as a cross-disciplinary creator bridging sound and image. Effective Night is an EP themed around "a night under the influence of sensory effects". Neon-lit cityscapes, wavering consciousness, and the intersection of euphoria and anxiety define this liminal time. Across five tracks, the EP traces the process of being swallowed by the night, learning to ride it, and eventually emerging into dawn. One of the project's defining features is that every track is accompanied by its own music video. These videos are seamlessly connected into a single concept film, EFFECTIVE NIGHT, scheduled for release on the same day as the EP. As a result, the project functions not only as a musical work, but also as a complete visual piece that allows the listener to relive the night as a cinematic experience. The opening track, "ECLIPSE," uses a solar eclipse as its motif, casting TIVE as the "moon" and those in the spotlight as the "sun", gradually engulfing them in shadow. It serves as an introduction, signaling the intrusion into night and the beginning of the narrative. "SOWARIN'" plays on the word soarin', meaning ascent, while overlapping it with the restless "sowa-sowa" feeling of anticipation and unease just before takeoff, capturing the moment when the senses begin to lift. On "LOGIN," the listener is drawn into another world, and into the scene itself, as the night fully transitions into a new phase. "Pu:Re" reflects a moment of sharpened perception and introspection, seeking to recover a once-pure, instinctive impulse. The final track, "SIDE EFFECT," depicts the aftermath, the side effects and quiet resonance that follow, gently ushering the night toward morning. Rooted in electronic music and hip-hop, while incorporating the textures of 2-step and UK garage, the sound resists confinement to any single genre. Instead, it functions as a document of an urban trip through the night. Effective Night is a new kind of nocturnal experience designed to color the hours after dark. For listeners seeking fresh sensations in today's scene, it offers an "effective" prescription.
