[Sun Shade] "Sun Shade" is a pianoless quartet led by Australian trombone player James Macaulay.He develops original sounds with unique nuances, along with the talented musicians,Kei Matsumaru(sax), Yujiro Yoshimine (b) and Sota Kira (ds). [James Macaulay] James Macaulay is a trombone player and composer living in Tokyo. He was the winner of the 2017 Australian National Jazz Award for Brass at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival. Macaulay was awarded a scholarship to complete his Honours degree at Monash University in Melbourne in 2013, as well as receiving the Monash Jazz Prize for composition in 2012. Macaulay performs regularly with the Australian Art Orchestra, and has performed and recorded with them in Australia, Poland, London and Berlin. Recently they played at the Berlin Jazz Festival where Macaulay also performed with the legendary Anthony Braxton's project, Sonic Genome. He has played with the Rob Burke Sextet in New York, featuring Paul Grabowsky, Ralph Alessi and Mark Helias. Whilst living in Australia he performed with a wide variety of artists, including Paul Grabowsky, Andrea Keller, Monash Art Ensemble, Eugene Ball Quartet, Clairy Browne and the Banging Rackettes, Flap!, Harry Angus from Cat Empire, the Bennett's Lane Big Band, the Unfix Orchestra and several of his own bands, including the Lagerphones. In Japan he regularly plays with the Akihiro Nishiguchi quintet, the Akiyoshi Shimizu quintet, the Aaron Choulai Quintet and leads several of his own groups.
