Shigeki Maruyama
Born in Misawa, Aomori, in 1982, Shigeki moved to Kobe, Hyogo, at the age of nine. Placing pivotal importance on the "encounters" he has, Shigeki seeks to connect people, nature and hope through his musical performances, which he gives all over Japan and across the world. He not only sings, but also plays the acoustic guitar, the native-American ute, the Jew's harp, along with the sanshin and tonkori, traditional instruments of Okinawa and Ainu. For a great many people, Shigeki's music is the source of new ideas and inspiration. It inspires them with its sound and figurative lyrics born from a unique sensitivity. It enables people to recognize, reconnect with and appreciate what the world offers us. In many cases, it makes a real dierence in people's lives. Shigeki is currently based in Tokyo, where he continues to work as both a performer and a producer.
