Singer-songwriter heimrecord made their debut in 2022 with the single " Natsu no Hamon"( composed by Yasuyuki Horigome, formerly of Kirinji). Now, after about a year and a half, they are releasing a new song titled " Banshu no Akatsuki," a piece rich in lyricism set against the backdrop of Kyoto's Pontocho district, coming out on November 6th.
Since their debut in 2022, heimrecord has performed live and DJ with a theme of nostalgia. Recently, on November 3rd, they held their first live band show in Tokyo's Shimokitazawa at Mona Records (supported by Yoshiaki Yahashi on guitar, Tatsuya Kashima on bass, and Hitoshi Kusunoki on drums). This new song, "Banshu no Akatsuki,"is a change from the previous single, "Yamawarau"(2023), which featured alternative guitar ambience and poetry, evoking a nostalgic image of one's hometown. This time, the theme is "nostalgia set in Kyoto's Pontocho."
According to heimrecord, "The setting of this song is Pontocho, Kyoto's traditional flower district, lined with old-fashioned shops. I created "Banshu no Akatsuki"recalling a time I walked down the atmospheric, dimly-lit cobbled backstreets of Pontocho, immersing myself in a scene that has appeared in stories by my favorite novelist. The arrangement this time was again done by Genichi Tamura, who also arranged my debut track, "Natsu no Hamon."His arrangement feels as beautiful as the moon reflected on the Kamogawa River, subtly illuminating the path and destination in the song. The lantern pictured on the cover, which I photographed myself, reflects this beauty. I hope you can enjoy the evening streetscape while gazing at the lantern image."
This latest work is truly a song filled with lyricism, set in the evocative atmosphere of Pontocho in Kyoto. Its themes resonate with the wabi-sabi of Kyoto and the lyrical quality inherent in Showa-era Japanese ballads.
